We are a small team running a high volume kitchen. A new person joining us should be energetic, reliable (showing up is important), comfortable with the rhythm of food service (it can be a physically demanding and messy), and enjoys crossing items off a list (the job is very task oriented).

    What You’ll Do

    You’ll manage daily kitchen operations while building up the people and processes that keep our bakery running smoothly.

    • Oversee daily production schedules and team assignments

    • Learn and execute our full recipe book

    • Supervise and support bakers to ensure accuracy and consistency

    • Teach and develop staff to improve skills and foster engagement

    • Manage ingredient inventory and assist with ordering

    • Uphold food safety and sanitation standards (ODA/FDA)

    • Maintain a clean, organized kitchen workspace

    • Track production needs and communicate clearly with management

    What We’re Looking For

    • At least 4 years of experience in a commercial kitchen or bakery

    • 2 years of experience leading shifts or managing a small team

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills

    • A calm, clear communicator who leads by example and is comfortable accepting and giving constructive feedback

    • Familiarity with food safety standards; HAACP and allergen awareness is a plus

    • A professional, respectful, and team-centered attitude

  • Philomena Bake Shop is a gluten-free, vegan bakery proudly serving Northeast Ohio through a wide-reaching wholesale network and our growing retail storefront in Slavic Village. We’re entering an exciting new phase and are looking for an experienced baker to join our small, hardworking team.

    We run a high-volume, scratch-based kitchen supplying over 20 wholesale accounts and a busy storefront. We’re looking for someone who brings skill, consistency, and a positive attitude—someone who knows the rhythm of food production and takes pride in making excellent, consistent baked goods.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Mix and bake high-volume batches using standardized recipes—accurately and efficiently.

    • Maintain consistency, speed, and cleanliness throughout the baking process.

    • Prep and pack wholesale and retail orders with care.

    • Monitor quality and help plan daily production goals.

    • Clean and maintain your station and shared spaces: dishes, sweeping, mopping, trash, etc.

    • Follow verbal and written instructions; communicate clearly with your team and manager.

    • Arrive on time, dressed appropriately (non-slip shoes required; nails polish-free).

    • Stand for full shifts and regularly lift 25 lbs (up to 50 lbs with assistance).

    Requirements

    • Minimum 1 year professional experience in a scratch bakery or commercial kitchen.

    • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation practices (ODA/FDA; HAACP and allergen awareness is a plus).

    • Strong reading comprehension and basic math skills.

    • A consistent work history with verifiable references.

    • Comfortable with physical, repetitive tasks in a fast-paced kitchen.

    • Must be 18 or older.

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with cake decorating or finishing.

    • Familiarity with gluten-free and vegan baking (or a willingness to learn quickly).

    What we offer

    • Full time or part time available. Saturday availability is required.

    • $16 to $20 per hour depending on skill level and experience.
